Ag Art update

We have previously said that we were going to do some Art for our Agricultural day.  Well its now called a Spring Festival and will be in Week 7 of Term 4.  But we are super organised, so we have done the artwork this term.

We started by sketching NZ flowers carefully and then blowing them up in the photocopier.  But we discovered that we did not know how to mix clean colours.

So, we made these Autumn Trees.  Miss Hammond showed us how to do warm colours, and Cool colours.  She showed us how to keep the colours clean by not mixing red and blue together.  We learnt heaps!

Now we have gone back to our NZ Flowers. We are  trying to shade them to look real.  We know that we need to start with the lightest colours first so that we don't make them muddy when we mix the colours ourselves.  Some of us even had to think about whether to put the background colour on first or the flowers.  Tricky.  Here are were we are up to so far.

Aren't they awesome?

Keep checking back to see our progress.

Matai and Byron

At the moment in reading we are learning to use the scrabble tiles to spell out our words to make them into senses.  We have to check it is spelt correctly and that it makes sense.  Today we wrote a sentence all about World War 2.  Byron had to use the dictionary to find out how to spell Commander!  We had to use the virtue of creativity to make some of the letters, notice that some of the m's are e's on there side.  Smart thinking really.

Trout Farming with Blue Group

We  just read a book about trout farming.  We learnt about the life cycle of a trout.  They start off as eggs, which looks like and orange.  Then they become they get a black eye.  After that they hatch they turn into Alevin, which are fish with giant bellies.  The big belly is the yoke from the egg and live off this for a while.  Then they turned into Fry, which are little tiny fish.  The fry has a gap in its tummy, where the yoke goes back inside it as it grows.  When they grow really big we catch them and eat them for dinner.

Miss Hammond showed us some real eggs, Alevin and Fry.  They were really cool!  They were preserved in Glycerin which means we cant open them, or they will go off.

We didn't think they would be that small, but they are!

Art Attack

Today we started on an Agricultural Day Art Project.  We decided that some spring flowers are beautiful, like daffodils.  But native NZ flowers have that special edge.  So, we have decided to study them closely.

We started by looking at huge colour pictures of Hebes, Kowhai, Harekeke and Pohutakawa on the IWB.  Then with Miss Hammond's help we drew our own versions.

We learnt that you actually need to look at the flower and draw what you see, not what you think you see.  Sometimes the more you look the more details you see and the better your picture gets.

We also learnt that you start with the big shapes and then focus on the little details.

Check back here soon to see our artwork as it progresses.

Ella and Taiana Day 4

Instead of a report, today we looked at all the photos that have been taken at the games so far.  We picked the one that spoke to us and imagined we were them.  Miss Hammond could not decide between these two, so she has posted both!

I try to attack the ball as hard as I can.  Next minute I’m somersaulting high in the air; sticks flying, arms all spread.  I was spinning high in the air.  I couldn’t even think!  I bet all the people in the stadium thought I was trying to kick him as hard as I could in the guts.  In the end I didn’t even hit the ball L

My heart is beating.  I jump up and put my hands up as high as I could and …
I got it!  I hurry to the goal and bounced the ball as hard as I could, and I shoot it.  I scored!  I yelled, “We won, we won!”  The crowd cheered so loud.  That was the bestest day ever!
