FRANKTONS GOT TALENT

A HUGE congratulations to Taiana and Ethan for representing us in Franktons Got Talent today.  Ethan was up first and showed us his amazing skills on drums!  Wow, he absolutely silenced the audience from the first beat!  Taiana our beautiful songbird sung her heart out next and gave everyone goosebumps.  Then it was nervous wait for both as a competitive line up of dancers, singers and poi twirlers from the other middle and junior school classes showed their stuff.

After a long deliberation from Kung Fu Panda and Captain Jack (the judges) Taiana was crowned the winner and Ethan Runnerup!  WAHOO!  GO ROOM 9!

This is all 1.32 Ethan:-)  I found the rest of the movie for you:-)

Jake Competes in the Middle School Speech Competition

Today I competed in the Middle School Speech Competition.  It was really scary because you have to have to speech in front of the entire middle school.  It was freaky.  Even my dad and Granmum was watching me. Its like even my friends were watching me.

My Speech is about the best job in the world world have to be ... A policeman.  The person inspired me was my Dad friend, Dave who is an Police Officer.

To get ready for today I had to write my whole speech out.  It was nearly pages long and then yesterday my mum typed them up for me.  Today my teacher laminated my cue cards for me so that I so prepared for the finals.  I had to practise infront of the mirror like once a day so that I could get rid of my nerves.  But i was still super nervous today!

Fairytale Plays

On Friday we continued our inquiry into Fairytales.
Our challenge was to put what we have learnt into practise.  We had to get into groups, decide on characters, storyboard out what our plot was going to be and then start practising.  Although we changed some of the plots a little from traditional tales, we knew what parts needed to stay so that it was still the right Fairytale.   Here are the final product!  What do you think?

Basic Facts Competition

CONGRATULATIONS
PARTHIV and CAMERON!

Today was the Middle School Basic Facts Competition.  Each class had to select 2 participants to compete against the other 4 classes.  They had to answer questions in front of a huge audience.  They started with addition and subtraction, then a multiplication and division round. Then Mrs Pye and Miss Hammond made it harder, it was time for the mixed round.  But they were too good at those questions too.  So, the teachers bought out the senior questions, the tricky hard questions that the senior school used!  But even that proved too easy!  So the teachers got crafty.  They reduced the time from 5 secs to 3 secs.  And unfortunately this tripped Cameron up, who end up an awesome 3rd overall!  This left Parthiv as our last hope.  The next round needed the entrants to yell out the answer first, whoever was right got the point and the first one to 5 won.  Parthiv was up 4 - 0, when his opponent came back to make it 4 - 3.  After lots of draws and "Answer Sneezes," Parthiv was crowned the Overall winner!  WAHOOO.  GO ROOM 9!

Speeches

Today was the day!  The scary day when all of Room 9 had to present their speeches.  They have been working hard on them for about a month by writing arguments, watching famous speeches and doing oral language tasks in class.  They had the choice between 2 topics - "The best job in the world would have to be", or  "If everyone had to play a sport what should it be?"  There were heaps of very well written speeches with introductions, conclusions and hooks to engage the audience.  There were laughs, jokes, posters and pictures to share.  Some students used cue cards, other used piece of refill and some even made poster to read from!  Thank you Ryan for being the podium.  Our virtues were really shining today!  Miss Hammond was so proud of us all that she is giving us each a virtues voucher for our efforts.

Check out the speeches page for the videos!  Comments are more than welcome.

Check back here soon to see who won from our classroom and gets to compete in week 10 again the other middle school classes.

Upwords

Today Emma and Ella decided to play Upwords, which is like scrabble but you can on top of words and not just beside them.  We think we did a great job at it.  Plus we only had 4 letters left: N I S and Qu. These are some of the pictures :)

Then we destroyed it. Emma got to kick it and Ella was packing one.

Fairytale Inquiry

If you are looking for the Fairytale inquiry learning tools they have moved!  Use your problem solving skills to see if you can find them:-)

Red Group Reading

Today our teacher gave us a sentence.  The problem is she has cut it up and we had to put it back together!  We had to find the word with the capital letter which was the start and then build it from there.  We had to use very word too!  We had to use all our reading strategies like rereading, predicting and checking meaning.  It was tricky but we got there in the end.
